I agree we need fresh local food, but there is a lot of waste and even graft in some of the use of these funds. More than just buying soda.... My hope is Brooke Rollins and the USDA will find ways to improve upon these programs -- the cuts are not for the current program year so there will not necessarily be an interruption of legitimate farm sourcing.

This seems completely contradictory to MAHA! Why would the USDA be allowed to cut this funding? If I’m understanding this article correctly, isn’t this part of RFK Jr.’s new role as HHS Secretary? Or isn’t it?

Bobby has no control over these programs. Brooke Rollins cut them.

I understand this part but it seems completely contradictory. And if HHS hasn’t any say over the USDA then we’re more screwed than I thought.

In either case it’s completely moronic moneys going to help local farmers and schoolchildren would be cut.

It would make sense if HHS has some say in this but Senator Cassidy would have to approve this I’m sure or at minimum have something to say in what RFK does or doesn’t do within HHS.

Thank you John clarifying this and correct my misunderstanding.

Consider the fact that Georgia is on the list for this program. They just passed a law protecting their farmers from a federal ban on glyphosate for causing harms to consumers ie. cancer. Much like the protection pharma has for the harm they cause. Should they participate when they clearly don't care about healthy food?
