A Louisiana man in his 60s who was hospitalized with the first severe case of bird flu in the U.S. has died, the Louisiana Department of Health announced Monday.
What diagnostic procedure (quality assured laboratory test) was utilised to specifically determine that "bird flu" and no other infectious agent was the aetiology of this man's symptoms? Were there pre-existing co-morbidities? Were there contributory factors? What was his general state of health otherwise? Was he well or mal-nourished? What medications were used to alleviate his symptoms? Was he ventilated? Was an autopsy performed? Seems to me there are a lot of questions to be answered before one case of "bird flu" is promoted as the commencement of a pandemic.
